📋 Studio Policies & Expectations

• 🏺 Studio Practice Hours

  Students are welcome to use the studio outside of scheduled class times to practice and continue working on their pieces.

  💡 A Quick Note on Practice Time: While occasional questions are always welcome, please refrain from requesting impromptu instruction during independent practice times.

  If you need dedicated, one-on-one guidance on a specific technique, you can schedule a private lesson at the following rates:

  • 30-Minute Session: $75

  • 1-Hour Session: $125

  • Note: Last-minute instruction requests will incur an additional 25% fee and are strictly subject to instructor availability.

  🔄 Make-Up Classes

  If you miss a session, you may sit in on another class if an open seat is available. While we cannot guarantee a spot, we will do our best to provide make-up options.

  • Timeline: All make-up sessions must be completed within your current course period.

  • Glazing Exception: The only exception is the final glazing class. If missed, you may attend a subsequent course's glazing session to finish up your work.

  📦 Finished Work & Pick-Up

  • 60-Day Rule: All projects must be completed and picked up within 60 days of your course completion date.

  • After 60 days, unclaimed items become the property of Cedar Oak Farm and will no longer be held.

  ❌ Cancellations & Refunds

  • Low Enrollment: Cedar Oak Farm reserves the right to cancel a class due to low enrollment. In this rare event, you will receive a 100% refund.

  • Student Cancellations: If you need to cancel your enrollment, you must do so at least 7 days prior to the class start date to receive a refund (minus a $25 processing fee).

  • The One-Week Window: No refunds or "postponements" will be issued for student cancellations made within one week of the class start date. Please note that we are unfortunately unable to accommodate unexpected life events that may prevent attendance.

Wheel Throwing Course Levels

• Beginner & Adv. Beginner: Perfect for those with little or no experience, or if you've only taken one or two wheel classes. We provide hands-on guidance to confidently start your pottery journey. (Not sure if the wheel is for you? Try our Combined Clay class to experience both wheel throwing and hand-building!)

• Advanced Beginner / Intermediate: This class is designed for students who can center their clay and throw a 6” cylinder with relative consistency. It is ideal for those who are ready to move past the absolute basics, develop a more critical eye for form, and push their skills further.

  In this level, you will focus on:

  • Refining your technique and throwing with more efficiency.

  • Altering thrown forms on and off the wheel.

  • Experimenting with advanced wheel and hand-building combinations.

  Note: This class is not intended for absolute beginners or those still heavily struggling to center or pull walls. It is a highly collaborative environment where students frequently share tips, techniques, and creative feedback with one another!

• Intermediate & Advanced: This class is the ultimate creative hub for our independent and seasoned potters. Designed strictly for students who can center their clay and throw a 6” cylinder with relative consistency, this combined session moves away from standard step-by-step instruction and leans into advanced artistic growth.

  In this level, you will focus on:

  • Mastering Form & Scale: Pushing past your comfort zones to throw larger, more complex shapes with efficiency.

  • Altering & Combining: Learning to manipulate forms on and off the wheel, and seamlessly blending wheel-thrown components with advanced hand-building techniques.

  • Developing a Critical Eye: Refining your personal aesthetic, experimenting with intricate surface designs, and exploring advanced glazing methods.

  Note: This is a highly collaborative, inspiring environment. Students in this level frequently share tips, troubleshoot advanced techniques together, and offer creative feedback. It is not intended for beginners or those still heavily struggling to center or pull walls.
